Soho Taco is a gourmet taco-cart caterer based in Santa Ana, and it is unusually forthcoming about the hardware. Its carts are custom-made in stainless steel, with two propane grills enclosed at the rear and inserts along the guest side holding condiments, salsas, and the beans and rice. The company describes the service as its heart and soul: a crew sets up one of its mobile kitchens at your location and the chefs prepare, cook and serve from it rather than arriving with trays.
Soho Taco sits inside a small family of brands the company calls Soho Familia — alongside Xoxopop, Soho Tamal, Sohomax and a Santa Ana event space called Sala — which is worth knowing if you are quoted on a package that spans more than tacos.
Three package tiers are published — Premier, Soho and Clasico — and the service model is two chefs working a two-hour window, with planning guidance of four to five tacos per person. Both formats are offered: the on-site cart, and drop-off or pick-up for events that do not need a crew. The company serves Orange County, the greater Los Angeles area and, in its own words, beyond. On the bill, Soho Taco states that a 20% gratuity, a travel fee and tax are added to all orders; the travel fee amount is not published. One detail it puts in writing that most do not: all leftovers are cooked, packaged and handed to you at the end. Enquiries run through a quote request form, or by phone. On the cart, the tiers differ by how many fillings you get — Clasico two standard, Soho three, Premier any four including upgrades. The eight standard fillings are chicken, carne asada, chorizo, carnitas, al pastor, spicy potato, jalapeño and calabacita (zucchini), with shrimp, mahi mahi and a signature veggie taco as premier upgrades. The company tags four of those as vegetarian on its own menu: calabacita, jalapeño, spicy potato and the portobello veggie taco. Every package includes corn tortillas, salsa roja, jalapeño salsa, cilantro, lime, red onion, shredded Monterey jack, guacamole, house-made sea-salted tortilla chips, a choice of Spanish or lemon rice with black or refried beans, and plates, napkins and forks; Premier adds organic heirloom pico de gallo and mango salsa. Upgrades are listed without prices on that page: tortillas hand-pressed on site, a gourmet two-type tortilla package in basil, sun-dried tomato, blue corn, chipotle, saffron or regular corn, bamboo plates with pre-rolled bamboo flatware, and an hors d'oeuvres package of four choices and 250 pieces with table, linen and an hour of appetizer service. Service staff run a four-hour minimum plus an hour of set-up, and for bartenders the host supplies the alcohol. The delivery and to-go side is where the company publishes actual prices. The packages are priced as totals rather than per head — Clasico from $284.99, Soho from $314.99, Premier from $344.99 — and because no guest count is attached to them, no per-person figure can be derived. Online ordering runs seven days a week, 8am to 7pm, on a $250 delivery minimum within a twenty-mile radius; weekend, holiday and same-day orders go through contact rather than the cart. The à la carte list is priced too: camarones tacos at $95.99 a dozen and veggie tacos at $83.99 a dozen, both on a two-dozen minimum; mini bean-and-cheese burritos and quesadillas at $41.99 a dozen; albóndigas at $5.39 each and shrimp skewers at $5.49 each, again two dozen minimum; ceviche at $39.99 a pound, esquites at $69.99 and pan dulce at $68.79. Aguas frescas are $80.99 for a 2.5-gallon container serving 25, or $99.99 for the premium flavours sweetened with agave; canned sodas and bottled water $2.99, Mexican sodas $3.99, chocolate-covered strawberries $50.99 a dozen. A chafing dish set is $50.99 with Clasico and $66.99 with Soho or Premier. Bartenders and servers are each $319.99 for four hours, then $72 an hour.
